Custom commissions.
Fiber Arts Houston takes on a limited number of custom fiber arts commissions each year. Weavings, embroidery, mixed fiber wall pieces, and textile objects — created by our studio team, including our founder Terri Michele King, who brings extensive expertise from her training at the Royal School of Needlework and the College for Master Kilt Tailors.
Commissions begin with a conversation. You describe what you're looking for — size, palette, subject, use — and we tell you what's possible and what it will cost. We do not provide estimates without seeing the space and understanding the project.
We have completed commissions for private collectors, businesses, and public installations. Work samples are in the gallery.
To start a commission:
Provide a description of the project, intended placement, preferred palette, and your timeline. Photos of the space help us understand the context.
Commission fees are paid to Fiber Arts Houston and support our ongoing work in the studio, library, and education programs.
Needlework completion.
We complete in-progress needlework pieces. Canvas embroidery, cross stitch, crewelwork, pulled thread, and similar work. If you have a project that has been sitting unfinished for months or years, or one you inherited and want to see completed, bring it to us.
We assess each piece individually. We work to the original design and palette unless you request modifications. We document the piece and provide photos throughout the completion process.
What we complete:
Canvas embroidery (half cross, full cross, tent stitch, specialty stitches). Cross stitch and counted needlework. Crewelwork on fabric or canvas. We do not complete knitting, crochet, or garment construction.
Blocking, mounting, and finishing.
We block finished knit, woven, and embroidered pieces. Blocking is essential for dimensional work, tapestries, and anything that needs to hold shape or relax to its final dimensions.
We also offer general textile finishing — seaming, hemming, edge finishing on woven yardage, and preparation of fiber arts pieces for display or gifting.
We mount finished needlework. Every piece is laced, not stapled — the standard for needlework that will last. We use archival materials throughout. Pieces can be dropped off at the studio by appointment, and we provide a receipt and condition report when we receive your work.
Getting started.
All services begin with a contact form submission. Describe your project, include photos where possible, and note your timeline. We respond within five business days with a next step — usually a short consultation to assess the work.
Services are available to clients at all locations. You do not need to be a member to use studio services.
